Where Did the Glamour Go?

2:53 PM Prueba 0 Comments

That is the million dollar question.
We would think that with modern technology things and even our lives would become better.
But aside of bringing only positive things to our way of living, they have also made it become faster, more stressful and sometimes I think.. with less quality.
We have subtracted the quality of things.
We avoid craftsmanship to produce in mass. People are in the search of luxurious living but would  rather do this than lead a luxurious life by picking timeless pieces , living in the moment or making their environment more beautiful. Now a days, nothing lasts.
And I've come across this idea in many occassions, by movies, photos and of course shopping.
So last week for example,  before going back to school I went to make an investment.
Obviously to my closet. WHAT ELSE?
I said to myself that I had to look for timeless pieces; because as much as I would love to wear every season's "IT", buying things that take our breath away has no comparisson.
You never get tired of them and they give you a certain aura of elegance and order.
We are changing constantly and for some reason that speed takes away the glamor of things.
While looking at pictures or watching movies like The Notebook, The Great Gatsby, Water for Elefants, Cabaret or Breakfast at Tiffany's... New or old... you see how pretty simple things make a difference. A little blue dress for a boat ride in the lake with Noah, a Givenchy dress to have a cup of coffe and bread while daydreaming what we girls would love to receive in those little teal boxes, a Prada dress to drink tea with Jay Gatsby or lying on the sofa with a string of pearls around the neck chit chatting with Nick Carraway. Even if you don't have a penny like Liza in Cabaret... strolling around in your fur coat.
Why not...? My biggest dream is to fly without baggage limit and travel the world in style.
Hermes scarves and lace dresses for long walks in Sicily... a pair of DKNY jeans and a Raincoat to walk around NYC like Sinatra. To dream is not expensive and neither is luxury. There are minimalist seconds as I call them, where something makes us feel incredibly lucky and happier... than 10 years living to the speed of light.
Take the time to reflect and think what's best.
What happend to the importance of looking elegant?
As in Cabaret, people in the past as much poor as they were... tried to look nice. Men in suits, women with tights. When the war hit they would put makeup on their legs to make them look as if they had some on.
Now girls go to school in pants.
I'm not telling you to wear Chanel. But a nice sweater and jeans could make the difference.
Be effortless, Be glamorous and take noticed of life and how the simple fact that a rose blossoms is sort of a magical miracle.
If you don't take things for granted and use this philosophy  to look nice. Your entire surroundings will be... and that way your life will become luxurious.

A Date with Grace

2:30 AM Prueba 1 Comments

Don't you hate when you desperatly want to read a book, but have a million things to do and no time?
I constantly suffer because of this.
You are in the middle of a battle, a love declaration or about to learn the seeked truth from one of the characters and need to go back to work or do homework.
I often use precious hours of sleep to finish countless stories. But this time I had an appointment .To read everywhere I started downloading books to my phone. I have about 20.But I decided that I needed to have A Memoire in my hands, becase it did not only look very interesting and was the must read book in the fashion world. It was beautiful as well.
So I asked a friend who was in New York to buy it for me along with The World According To Karl. The smell of a new book does not compare to anything.I avidly started reading a weekend, re-reading the paragraphs that seemed most important to me so that I knew everyone who Grace was speaking about. The return to school made it very difficult for me to find the time. Still, I decided to take the huge brick and carried it around in my bag for a week, but could not read a single words. In the end I decided I needed to disconnect my mind as at least 5 minutes a day from school and was going to give those five minutes to Grace Coddington .
So it became a routine appointment with a cup of tea on a fluffy couch.
I'm about to finally finish it and can recommend it.
It's an amazing book and GRace is extremely open, honest and real.
A very successful woman with her feet on th ground.
Marvelous!

Beauty: Flaming Rose

Flaming Rose / MAC
Have you ever had to get ready in 5 minutes?
It's the most stressing thing in the world and the worst part is that you get so concentrate on looking perfect that you forget little details. Like nail polish.
I hate to rush and leave home without painting my nails. Speacially when I wear peep toe platforms.
It's too complicaated to paint them in the car and even if you do it doesn't dry fast. So you are there, harmless and nervous without moving in order to prevent stains.
That until you discover MAC polishes.
This is my emergency polish. Flaming Rose because red is never out of order and besides it drys in less then 40 seconds.
In other words it has saved me more times then I could count. And the color is just lovely!
So if you want something quick, chic, classy and with a beautiful gel finish you now where to find it!

Fur-real or Fur-fake?

2:30 AM Prueba 1 Comments

Let me clear one thing first.
I ADORE animals.
I wanted to be a vet growing up and watched animal planet almost everyday to learn as much as I could about them. I'm the "wild life geek" who is against many things that put this creatures in danger.
Now that we got that straight let's get back to the subject.

Breath Of Life

Blazer/Max Mara
Blouse/ Anne Taylor
Cashmere Sweater/My Vintage Armoire
Shorts/ Bershka
Bag/ Chanel
Booties/ Zara

I love to wear blazers, specially out of wool with jeans and skinny's, because they give a slight hint of masculinity which I consider very classy.
The fact of playing with male and female accents turnes any look into effortless chic.
As if you had just casually borrowed a shirt or coat to put over a cool outfit.
A great example would be how a white shirt together with red lipstick are infinitely sexier than a lycra dress in full daylight. (If these can ever be considered sexy at all)
Houndstooth pattern is another thing I like for being timeless. That is one of the main reasons why I've been wanting to wear my Max Mara suit so much. It's a pretty cool 3 piece suit with a tomboy inspiration which I'm waiting for a great oportunity to show. It is a little too much for my daily life at school or friends, so I decided to take the blazer as long as it is and pair it with a pair of high waisted woolen shorts.
Inspired in France I took a silk blouse and cashmere sweater to stay warm.
To walk away in style, one of my favourite pairs of booties and this perfect sized Chanel bag.
Now is the perfect time to hide under layers, wear wool shorts, all sorts of tights and have fun.
I read on Vogue's "fashion horoscope" that this 2014 my style is going to change, I hope it becomes more like this.

Now that we are starting this new year I wanted to share with you what I learn on 2013.
I learned that we need to try hard.
Try, try, try, and even if we feel like we are about to crumble... try again. Still enjoy your holidays and use them as a time to recharge and disconnect. To breath calmly and enjoy life as it is.
Failure is a great teacher. and we must develop the ability to learn from it.
We must also know that some people or situations fall as a temporary happiness to our lives and that some doors close so that others open and lead us to the next step.
Nothing comes alone, we have to go get it. Like happiness. We must work to create it.
However, we can not forget to live. Sometimes we get married with the idea of how we want to display our happiness and forget to live in the moment.
Remember that a life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

Song of the day...

Hey Guys,
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that all your wishes come true!
I'm brilliantly happy about this year and can't wait to see where it leads, hopeing it comes with many new projects, laughter and memories.
To start with the right foot I have a relaxing cleanse for you.
The first step is to take a pot, put water in it and boil.
Afterwards take it out of the fire, put your face over the steam and cover your head with a towel.
That way your pores will open to let you scrub and clean.
When you are finished rub an ice and let the pores close.

To fresh up an relax I have a mask.
You need:
Three tablespoons chopped mint or fresh mint
Three tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
A cup of milk

Preparation:
Take a bowl, pour milk on it, add the finely chopped parsley and mint.
Mix, cover and let rest in the refrigerator for 12 hours before straining.
For application, the ideal is to use it in the morning when you wake up and before going to sleep. You just have to embed a cotton and distribute milk on your face, leaving on for 15 minutes before removing with warm water.

Happy New Year!
